About Alicia's Bees

Alicia's Bees is ....

A state licensed home daycare owned and operated by Alicia Quiroga, known as "Miss Alicia" to all the children under her care in Woodbridge, Virginia just outside of Tackett's Mill.

Alicia began Alicia's Bees Daycare thirty years ago in Arlington shortly after the birth of her oldest son after which her family moved to Springfield until 2002 and finally settled in Woodbridge where she has been operating out for the past seventeen years. She has provided quality care to dozens of boys and girls in that time - most from infancy through kindergarten, including younger siblings as their big brothers and sisters moved on to elementary school. Alicia keeps in touch with many of her "Bees" as they go on to reach new milestones and jokes fondly with them reminding them of how they were as babies and asks if they miss lunch at Alicia's Bees (the answer is always a big yes).

Alicia's Bees differs from other daycares in that it provides top quality care on a personal level for each child. Each child receives the same attention he or she would at home from a parent. No diaper goes unchecked, no runny nose goes unwiped, no one goes home crying! Complaints of unattended infants or toddlers left planted in front of a TV all day are sadly common at larger facilities or even some home daycares, but these complaints do not exist at Alicia's Bees. Parents receive a daily briefing on how their little boy or girl did that day, what they ate, any fall, scratch, or sniffle. On average the same class of Bees grow up learning how to walk, talk, sing and play kindly together for five years before graduating the daycare to begin school and that stability and consistency in a warm, nurturing environment is not something that is at all easy to find as many parents will attest.

Safety is a paramount concern and so there is never a moment when a child is left unsupervised. Alicia and all staff are all trained and certified in First Aid, MAT, and CPR for infants, toddlers, and older children, and are re-certified every year as per state regulations. All cribs and playground equipment are state approved for safety and toys are bought from a distributor that specializes in daycare friendly toys that are both age appropriate and safe. Stairs are blocked off by baby gates, sockets are sealed with plugs, and all cabinets and door knobs are child-proofed.

Alicia maintains a record on every child with regards to allergies and health concerns and Alicia’s Bees Daycare complies with the Child Nutrition Program set out by the United States Department of Agriculture to ensure all children receive a well-balanced diet.

All licensed daycare facilities in Virginia are subject to multiple unannounced inspections every year to check against safety violations and ensure adequate nutrition and Alicia’s Bees consistently passes with flying colors. Results of all inspections are available by Alicia upon request.

Finally, what really sets Alicia’s Bees apart is the rich learning and growing experience that each Bee undergoes in their time here. Alicia has completed coursework at Northern Virginia Community College on Early Childhood Development from which she has created daily group learning activities that involve arts and crafts, singing, dancing, reading, and playing. There are also commercial programs such as Mother Goose Time and Funshine Express that Alicia uses to facilitate learning time. Children learn numbers, shapes, colors, the alphabet, and higher vocabulary commensurate with their age and abilities.

Alicia’s Bees is a bilingual environment where many of the learning activities are conducted in Spanish and as a result most of the children grow up and graduate from the daycare being at least partially fluent. Several parents have kept Alicia updated via letters and Christmas cards even as long as ten years later to let her know that their child is excelling in their introduction to Spanish and other foreign language courses as Spanish shares much of the vocabulary and grammatical structure with Italian, French, Portuguese and other languages that new speakers often find hard to become accustomed to.

The level of care your child will receive at Alicia’s Bees is unrivaled among Northern Virginia home daycares; here you'll find a daycare that truly stands out  which is something you can see for yourself by dropping in for a visit or by reading from the testimonials section.
